When Vincent Ricard took over his family’s vineyards in 1999, his first priority was to quit selling grapes in bulk to the cooperative, which exasperated his father and antagonized his neighbors. Today he cultivates seventeen hectares planted mostly to Sauvignon Blanc, with small parcels of Cot (Malbec), Cabernet Franc, and Gamay, and the entire harvest is estate-bottled. Jean-Claude Janin worked for sixteen years as technical director and winemaker at the Cave de Viré, responsible for the production of thousands of hectoliters of Viré-Clessé, Mâcon-Villages, and Bourgogne Blanc. In 2006 he quit the cooperative, and working mostly alone over the course of the following year, built a tiny, immaculate winery, where he and his wife Marie-Odile produce brilliant, mineral Chardonnays from grapes they grow on the seven-hectare estate she inherited from her father.

Manoir de la Firetière has passed from father to son since 1845. The domaine covers 73 hectares on the schist and shale soils of Lroux-Bottereau, and Landreau. Most of the wines are covered by the Muscadet appellation, but the family has extended the domaine plantings to include varieties such as Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Gris (for whites), as well as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Gamay (for reds).
